We would like to introduce you to one of our talented artists – Michelle Chan!

Michelle is a pre-vis/layout artist currently working in preproduction on Dino Ranch – Season II. Get to know Michelle a bit better below, and enjoy some of her lovely artwork above!

What inspired you to work in animation?
I initially wanted to animate for video games?  after getting hooked on The Sims as a kid, and re-skinning my own characters and props for the game. I was later drawn to TV instead due to the huge variety of styles I could work in.

What is your favourite thing about what you do?
Everyday is different and exploratory! The subject matter is super cute, fun, and upbeat.

Are there any other creative disciplines you do in your spare time?
Mostly digital drawings. I love drawing animals?  and cartoony pet portraits. I’ve taken a recent interest in aqua-scaping too though!

Is there any accomplishment you’re particularly proud of?
I love being able to see shows I’ve worked on streaming on Disney ?  – it’s like a childhood dream come true!

Do you have a tip or piece of advice for aspiring animators/artists?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Your teachers, mentors, leads, and directors want your work to shine just as much as you do. It will save a lot of time and effort to get input on works in progress than to get revisions on completed work.
Also, don’t burn out! We love our work and genuinely have fun doing it, but it’s easy to go overboard without realizing it so try not to let your professional life overshadow your personal time.

Fantastic advice, Michelle – balancing life with work can be hard, especially when you love what you do! Thank you for being on Team IB, we appreciate your skills and hard work.
